Focus: China, a set of events at the University of Oregon’s White Stag Block in Portland, brings to the community an exciting series of artistic installations, lectures, and public forums over the 2009-10 academic year. Designed to interact with Portland institutions also presenting Chinese exhibits and lectures, FOCUS:China resonates with programs at the Portland Art Museum, which has opened its China Design Now! exhibition, and the Northwest Film Center, which is screening Lens on China a series of 15 films featuring Chinese content or direction.
Photographs of contemporary and traditional artists and musicians working in China will be displayed in the ground floor commons of the White Stag Block at 70 NW Couch St. The show is part of ChinaVine.org, an ongoing research project conducted by faculty members at the UO and University of Central Florida. Researchers are Doug Blandy and John Fenn from the UO's Art and Administration program and Kristen Congdon from UCF. Two photos of Shanghai, by Hajo Neis, UO professor of architecture, are also on display.
