The University of Oregon, Portland City Commissioner Randy Leonard and Ramsay Signs have reached an agreement in principle for a compromise to the redesign of the White Stag sign atop the White Stag Block facility. The agreement was announced at today’s city council meeting by Commissioner Leonard. Jan Oliver, representing the university, and Darryl Paulsen, president of Ramsay Signs, were in attendance. As a result of the agreement, the eminent domain legislation under consideration by the city council has been withdrawn.
Based on the redesign, the university will move forward with plans to purchase the sign. Ramsay Signs, as the current owner of the sign, will introduce the new design to the Historic Landmarks Commission for consideration at its April 27 meeting when it had planned to vote on the previously submitted design.
All parties agree that the redesign compromise is in the best interest of the greater community.
