University of Oregon

“Where History Meets Sustainability, The University of Oregon and the city of Portland work together towards a better future.”

Sustainability doesn't end when the building renovation is complete. The building must also inspire occupants and users to adopt more sustainable behaviors that are in alignment with the ideals that guided the renovation process.

Our hope is that future students, faculty, and other building users will be inspired by the buildings and will move their lifestyles towards greater sustainability.

The UO LEED Education Program Design Team has incorporated a number of elements into the building that increase education and awareness:

Art installations communicate the building's energy usage and savings; Bathroom signage educates about water efficiency; Self-guided walking tours allow you to see these sustainable highlights first-hand.

As the technology improves, the panels will be able to power the whole building. Bickel could also have solar panels if we wanted to expand.
