Learn more about the three different parts of Orientation - campus life sessions, academic Orientation sessions, and Week of Welcome events - below!
Customize your Orientation experience
These engaging and informational events are your first opportunity to explore campus and meet students from other programs! At your Campus Life Session, you will learn about campus resources, connect with other students, tour campus, and complete Prevention, Title IX, and equity and inclusion trainings that meet graduation requirements. Students must attend one, three-hour session, which includes a meal! Don't forget to register for your session.
Each academic department hosts academic orientation programming for you to learn about your program, meet staff and faculty, and connect with your classmates. This is your chance to explore your program's academic spaces, delve into the curriculum, and make connections with the staff and classmates that will support you throughout your academic journey.
Build your community at Portland by attending Week of Welcome events throughout the first week of classes! Get a headstart on community engagement and kickstart your success at UO Portland. Check out our calendar of All-Campus Orientation events below!
Pre-Orientation Checklist
Wondering what you can do before Orientation and the start of fall classes? This campus checklist is designed to make your transition to UO Portland as smooth as possible!
1. Register for a Campus Life Session
As part of our All-Campus Orientation, Campus Life Sessions are mandatory for all students new to UO Portland. We offer five throughout August and September - register for one that fit’s your schedule, and we’ll see you in the Campus Center!
Your Duck ID allows you to access UO resources and platforms, and it’s also the foundation for your UO email address. Set both up before the start of the term, as you’ll receive important information from Student Life and your academic programs via your UO email.
3. Request your UO Portland Access Card
Your access card gets you into academic buildings, lab spaces, and the Recreation Complex. Fill out this request form and specify that you’re new to UO Portland. Campus Safety will distribute access cards at Campus Life Sessions.
4. Connect with the Accessible Education Center (AEC)
If you anticipate needing academic accommodations, schedule a virtual meeting with an AEC Access Advisor. Starting this process a few weeks before the term begins helps ensure everything is in place by day one.
5. Request your Flock Card, if you’re new to UO
Your official UO ID card - request your Flock Card in advance of Orientation so it’s ready for your Campus Life Session. On the form, specify that you’re studying on the Portland campus.
6. Complete the recreation liability waiver
All fee-paying students can access UO Portland's gym and multipurpose field. Once you've completed the recreation liability waiver, Campus Safety will grant you card access to these spaces.
7. Set up your patient portal with Student Health and Counseling
UO Portland students have access to health and wellness services through Portland State University's Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) through their health fee.
8. Register your vehicle with Campus Safety
Parking is free on campus for UO Portland students, but you'll need to register your car with Campus Safety first (i.e., requesting P Zone permit). Students will not receive a physical parking permit, nor is one needed to park in the UO Portland parking lots.
9. Register your bike using Project 529
Along with a good lock and proper locking technique, registering your bike is the easiest way to keep it safe. UO partners with Project 529 for quick and easy bike registration.
10. Take the New Grad Student Survey
This survey provides crucial feedback and information used for programming, advocacy, and support in a campus-wide effort to reduce systemic barriers to graduate student well-being and success.
