ID and Access Card Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

At the University of Oregon's Portland campus, we utilize two primary cards to facilitate your campus experience: the UO ID Card and the UO Portland Access Card. While the UO ID Card serves as your official university identification, complete with library privileges and Duck Bucks functionality, the UO Portland Access Card is essential for accessing academic buildings, labs, and select campus facilities, especially during off-hours. Whether you're a new student needing to obtain both cards or a returning student looking to pick up replacements, this FAQ provides guidance on obtaining and using these cards effectively during your time at UO Portland.

What’s the difference between a UO ID Card and a UO Portland Access Card?

The UO ID card is the official identification card for students, faculty members, and staff at the University of Oregon. It can be used to check out books at the library and access events, and it can also be used as a debit card in the Duck Bucks program.

The UO Portland Access Card is your key to the Portland campus. Use it to enter academic buildings, the library, labs, studios, and on-campus residences. The access card also gets you into select buildings during hours that are open to students but closed to the public.

How do I request a UO ID Card?

Students can request a UO ID card HERE by submitting a photo. UO Login is required to submit your photo.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you have uploaded your photo submission and supporting government-issued ID, please contact ID Card Services to tell them you are at the Portland campus to help ensure the correct delivery of your card. You can let them know by replying to the “photo accepted” email that you receive or by contacting ID Card Services through the service request form.

How do I request a UO Portland Access Card?

Students can request a UO Portland Access Card HERE. UO Login is required to submit a request. No follow-up is necessary to ensure the correct delivery of your access card as it is printed in Portland.

Where do I pick up my card(s)?

You DO NOT need to go to Eugene to request or pick up your card(s). Your card(s) will be available to pick up at the UO Portland Campus Center depending on your student status:

Incoming UO Portland students will receive their cards during orientation. Please complete the UO ID and the UO Portland Access Card requests by Wednesday, September 18, 2024, to ensure timely delivery of your card(s)

Students living in on-campus housing will receive their access card during their move-in process.

Returning students can pick up their access card from Campus Safety at select times between September 26 and October 1. You can pick up your card in the Campus Center directly following returning student tours on September 26, 27, or 30. Learn more about Campus Tours here. Campus Safety will also be distributing access cards at the Campus Resource Fair in the Campus Center on October 1 from 12pm-3pm. If you aren't able to pick up your access card during these events, you will need to call 503-412-3600 or email campussafetypdx@uoregon.edu to arrange a time to get your card from UO Portland Campus Safety.

After October 4, 2024, any student who has not yet received their card(s) will need to coordinate with UO Portland Campus Safety to arrange a time for pick-up. Contact them by calling 503-41-3700 or emailing campussafetypdx@uoregon.edu

I already have an official UO ID card, do I need an access card too?

In short, yes! The Eugene and Portland campuses are on different card reader systems. Your UO ID card will not work to get you access to buildings, lab spaces, or on-campus residences at UO Portland. Most campus buildings are closed to the public in the evenings and on weekends, you will need an access card to enter these spaces during these times.

I’m transferring from an academic program that I started at the main campus, do I need to get a new UO ID card?

No. Your UO ID card is valid if you have an active relationship with the university. You do not need to renew your UO ID annually.

Can I use my UO ID or UO Portland Access Card to enter campus events or facilities at the Eugene campus?

Your UO Portland Access Card will not work on the main campus in Eugene. Our campuses are on different card reader systems.

Your UO ID may grant you access to some events and services at the main campus in Eugene, however, it is unlikely that it will allow entry into locked buildings or the campus recreation center.

Can I use my UO Portland Access Card for public transportation discounts?

UO Portland does not currently have a partnership with Tri-Met to offer all students transportation discounts. If you need public transit assistance, please contact the Office of Student Life & Belonging to learn about our Transportation Wallet Program at studentlifepdx@uoregon.edu or call 503-412-3704

What should I do if my UO ID or UO Portland Access Card is lost or stolen?

If you lose your UO ID or UO Portland Access Card, it's crucial to report it promptly. You can report a lost or stolen card by contacting UOPD Portland at 503-412-3700 or emailing pdxinfo@uoregon.edu. If you find your card after reporting it lost and haven't replaced it yet, notify UOPD Portland and they will reactivate your card for use.

What should I do if I find a UO ID or UO Portland Access Card that belongs to someone else?

If you find a UO ID or UO Portland Access Card that belongs to someone else, please turn it in as soon as possible. You can bring the card to the UOPD Portland Office on the first floor of the Portland Campus Center or contact them at 503-412-3700 for further instructions on how to return it. This helps ensure the cardholder can quickly regain access to their essential resources.

What are the ID card photo requirements?

Please thoroughly review these requirements and the example before submitting your photo. Failure to meet the requirements may result in a request to resubmit this form.

  • Recency: The photo must be taken within the last three months.
  • Originality: Submit an original photo, not a copy, scan, or photo of a photo (including passport photos).

Are there any restrictions or guidelines for personalizing my UO ID Card or my UO Portland Access Card (e.g., adding a preferred name or photo)?

For UO ID Cards: If you have updated your preferred name in DuckWeb, it will automatically be printed on your new UO ID. Please avoid including your last name in your Preferred First Name unless you want to appear twice on your UO ID.

For UO Portland Access Cards: The Access Card Form includes a space where you can provide a preferred name if you want it to appear on your card.

BOTH processes allow you to upload your photo. Be sure to follow the photo requirements or you may be asked to submit another photo.
