A look back and forward

Dear friends, colleagues, and alumni,

One year ago we welcomed you to our inaugural issue of Around the O Portland. Each email was assembled with the intent to paint a holistic portrait of the University of Oregon’s work in Portland and help strengthen your connection back to campus.

We highlighted the new graduate degrees in historic preservation and sports product design and the 144 Portland-based students who graduated last spring, including the first class from the sports product management program.

Lundquist College of Business moved into its new home and Urbanism Next was launched. We expanded a position to support student life in Portland and created the UO Portland Student Council.

We featured our students, like Viktoriia Haiboniuk, a Fulbright scholar from Ukraine studying in the multimedia journalism master programs, and two law students who spent the year as interns at Bonneville Power Administration. We followed our alumni, including Kevin Frazier, who started Passport Oregon, and Marcus Harvey, founder of Portland Gear.

Portland was the home to hundreds of UO-related events, from the Oregon Economic Forum, to the C-Suite Breakfast series. We simulcast the Ta-Nehisi Coates lecture to campus, and followed up with Portland-based panel discussion.

It is my hope that you have opened our pages, and that you will continue to do so this coming year. I would love to hear from you about your connection to the UO, what you find interesting in the publication and how we can partner in the Portland region.

On a final note, this last year we worked to develop the vision and strategic framework for UO Portland, which will guide us in the coming years. Please take a moment to review and let me know your thoughts at jgordon@uoregon.edu.

Thanks,

Jane Gordon
