AYCO The African Youth & Community Organization (AYCO) works with immigrant and refugee youth, developing programs for family mentorship, parent-school mediation, cultural brokering and trainings with mainstream institutions, inclusionary programming for people with disabilities, and English language classes.

This intern will be immersed in AYCO's programs, working directly with families to assist refugees, immigrants, and underserved population by connecting them to programs and resources.

better. better. is a progressive creative agency specializing in purpose driven marketing that empowers communities + businesses of color. This position provides an opportunity to develop creative marketing skills, including copywriting, social media/marketing, and event planning for organizations like Sneaker Week Portland, BLAQ Athlete, and Pensole Footwear Academy.
Boost Oregon

Boost Oregon empowers people to make science-based vaccine decisions for themselves, their families, and the community. They aim to disrupt the dangerous cycle of vaccine misinformation by providing evidence-based education without fear or degradation.

Internship responsibilities may include: research and focus groups of particular communities regarding vaccine hesitancy, creating print and digital educational resources, and/or creating and implementing an evaluation tool to assess Boost Oregon’s existing resources.

Constructing Hope Pre-Apprenticeship Program Constructing Hope works to rebuild lives by encouraging self-sufficiency through skills training and education in the construction industry. It provides no-cost, ten-week construction training programs, placement services, and career advancement support.

This position will provide project management and support to fundraising and marketing activities, including coordinating fundraising campaign components and social posts, gathering information for annual report and monthly graduate feature stories. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to help grow a brand new Social Media Ambassador program by creating materials and sharing content.

Ecotrust 

Ecotrust works in partnership toward an equitable, prosperous, climate-smart future, with a goal to inspire fresh thinking that creates economic opportunity, social equity, and environmental well-being. 

Primarily research-based, this position is an opportunity to develop skills in researching and presenting ideas; strengthening communication skills; practicing and applying systems thinking; and gaining a deep understanding of small business needs, lending institutions, and worker-ownership, especially as related to social justice.

El Programa Hispano

El Programa Hispano is a social service nonprofit that serves the entire lifespan to address the social determinants of health. It covers five main programming areas: education, housing, community wellness, UNICA (the first bilingual/bicultural domestic violence/sexual assault prevention and intervention program), and economic opportunities.

This position provides an opportunity to learn about nonprofit management, health equity, and community organizing. Possibilities include data entry and analysis; creating and testing the results of messaging; creating and co-managing social media channels; and assisting in the development of newsletter content.

Friends of the Children

Friends of the Children is a youth-serving national nonprofit based in Portland, Oregon, focusing exclusively on children who face systemic obstacles through relationships with professional mentors.

This is a marketing-focused internship, with duties including the creation of original website, e-newsletter, and social media content; with a team, continued management and growth of social media; and the production of videos for campaigns and initiatives, while ensuring diverse voices are represented.

GladRags

GladRag's mission is to positively transform the experience of menstruation through reusable menstrual products & relevant education by creating high-quality reusable products, rather than single-use disposable products that harm our planet. 

 

This internship can focus on an area based on an intern's skills. One option is an intern will work on a variety of marketing projects aimed at engaging the Latinx community, including translation, planning, and content creation. Fluency in Spanish and a familiarity with the Latinx community are preferred. Another option is for the intern in this position to work with us to audit our current assessment for our upcoming B Corporation recertification and assist in developing a plan for improvement.  Duties would include detailing costs, setting timelines, and tracking progress.
 

Hacienda CDC

Hacienda CDC is a Latino Community Development Corporation that strengthens families by providing affordable housing, homeownership support, economic advancement and educational opportunity.

This position will support organization-wide efforts to collect accurate data about the services they provide and the people they serve. Interns will work closely with data analysis to become proficient in the content management system and will work with departments to ensure data is collected consistently and that reports are generated.

Impact NW

Impact NW aims to prevent homelessness by partnering with thousands of people in danger of losing their housing. Services include rent, utility, and other supports, as well as job training, parenting support, and opportunities for children.

This position would work directly with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team and the People and Culture team to support Impact NW’s initiatives and staff training program. Opportunities could include drafting and presenting a training on an EDI topic, as well as work on a culturally responsive recruiting procedure project.

Lan Su Chinese Garden

Lan Su Chinese Garden, located in Old Town Chinatown Portland, has a mission to cultivate an oasis of tranquil beauty and harmony to inspire, engage and educate our global community in the appreciation of a richly authentic Chinese culture.

An excellent opportunity for those interested in nonprofit work, this intern will develop a plan targeting young professionals (ages 25-35) with the goal of converting these individuals into visitors, donors and members. Duties will include member interviews, engagement research, creating a cost analysis, and the presentation of a final report to leadership.

Latino Network

Latino Network is the leading culturally-specific provider for Latino youth, parent, and family education and involvement services in the Portland-area; they provide wrap-around services which include (but are not limited to) promoting early literacy, encouraging parent involvement, working with gang-involved and adjudicated youth and families, and providing academic support and activities to high school-aged youth. As a culturally-specific nonprofit, they aim to positively transform the lives of Latino youth, families, and communities through whole-hearted academic, civic, and economic engagement in their participants' success. 

Latino Network is seeking a communications intern with content creation, social media and/or graphic design experience to assist our communications team to further the outreach and education goals of the organization. 

LatinoBuilt

LatinoBuilt is a nonprofit trade association for Latino contractors in Oregon whose primary purpose is to support and empower Latino-owned businesses in construction. LatinoBuilt works with community partners to address current inequities and connect contractors to public works project opportunities.

LatinoBuilt offers an opportunity for interns interested in gaining experience and training in a variety of marketing and communications aspects, while also gaining knowledge of a small, specialized nonprofit. Ideally for bilingual and biliterate candidates, this position will work closely with leadership on creative ways to engage audiences in LatinoBuilt’s mission. 

Literary Arts

Literary Arts is a literary non-profit based in downtown Portland with a mission to engage readers, support writers, and inspire the next generation with great literature. Through their Youth Programs, they have served more than 4,000 high school students annually throughout Multnomah County with literary opportunities.

This intern would assist the youth programs coordinator in creating the annual anthology and digital chapbook of student work from the Writers in Schools public high school residencies. Duties include selecting pieces for publication, arranging the contents, designing the cover with the help of a graphic design company, working in InDesign, and proofreading.

NAACP,Portland 1120-B branch

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is dedicated to creating, support and develop cooperative relationships and strategies to move civil rights, racial justice and equality for African-American/Blacks in America.

This position is an excellent opportunity to research and develop policy points in support of a racially-just environmental and climate justice program that places clean energy opportunities in BIPOC communities. Interns will research and publicly present a collaborative project that emphasizes the impact of systemic racism on the health and quality of life of Black people and people of color.

Native American Youth and Family Center

As a social service agency and community center, the Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) serves the community with a diverse array of programming to meet the needs of everyone within it—from youth to elders.

This opportunity with NAYA offers a chance to develop your specific strengths and interests. With over 36 different types of programs and services, each needing support, you will have the chance to explore the organization’s broad services and match your skills, co-creating a project with NAYA leadership. Summer positions will primarily focus on seasonal camps within Youth and Education Services, providing support to Camp Rise which serves youth 2nd – 8th grade in exploring cultural identity, physical movement through recreation and traditional indigenous games, cultural arts, traditional teachings, and often STEAM programing through a culturally specific lens

PDX Black Excellence

PDX Black Excellence is a community organization cultural movement to connect and support Portland’s black residents and advocates. Through select services and curated events, PDX Black Excellence works to create a unique experience in Portland that fosters social and professional networking, new relationships, and new understanding.

PDX Black Excellence offers an opportunity to be responsible for management of all social media accounts, including daily posts and stories across a variety of platforms. Additionally, the intern will respond to messages, escalating to the proper person when necessary, and identify future posts from a controlled source of content providers. 

Portland Tennis & Education

Portland Tennis & Education's mission is to strengthen youth, inspire families, and build communities that reach their potential. They aim to create access to a fair learning and playing field for Portland’s most underserved youth through a variety of after-school and summer programs and activities.

As a coach/tutor in PT&E’s Serving Up Success Summer Program, interns would be responsible for being a role model to students, bringing a positive attitude, following the directions of the Lead coach/tutors and the program director, giving the scholar athletes full attention, and participating fully and enthusiastically in all activities both on and off the court. 

Produce Portland

Inspired by the lack of resources in the Portland artist community, Produce Portland is an experiential and service-based destination that complements an unconventional retail experience. Produce is not only a lifestyle brand that provides to men, women, and children, but a noteworthy destination for the Portland culture.

Produce Portland offers an opportunity to design a project based on the intern’s strengths and desired learning experience. Possibilities include social media management, learning and implementing market trends, design, brand management, and learning the inner workings of owning a business.

Pueblo Unido PDX

Pueblo Unido PDX is a non-profit organization that provides legal service navigation, client advocacy, and financial assistance to immigrants facing detention and deportation in the Pacific Northwest. They help people obtain legal aid and gather supporting evidence to present the strongest possible case against deportation.

Interns will work with the executive director to recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers who help navigate immigrant community members to legal and social services, provide interpretation and translation services, organize and attend outreach events, develop public-facing communications, manage the website, research public policies and community organizing strategies, and more.

Schoolhouse Supplies

Schoolhouse Supplies promotes educational equity in public schools by providing free school supplies to under-resourced students in under-funded school communities. 

The intern will help Schoolhouse Supplies build capacity for program growth by establishing or refining process documentation/standard operating procedures, as well as service and trend data, in several key areas, including: community awareness and marketing, program delivery, volunteer programs, and resource development.

Self-Enhancement, Inc. (SEI)

Self Enhancement, Inc. (SEI) is dedicated to guiding underserved youth to realize their full potential. Working with schools, families, and other partnering community organizations, SEI provides opportunities for personal and academic success, bringing hope to individual young people and enhancing the quality of community life. 

Depending on the strengths and interests of the intern, SEI offers a variety of opportunities to be immersed in its programs, including: Youth Services, Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN), Albina-Rockwood Promise Neighborhoods Initiative (ARPNI), Operations, Development, Community + Family Programs, Strategic Initiatives, Data, Finance, Facilities, and Human Resources.

Simple X Mixer

Simple X is an E-Learning and event platform, bridging the gap between black professionals and the workforce. Simple X empowers individuals and organizations by designing a space for people to connect, create, and cultivate their path to success.

Interns in this position will be immersed in the business and technical aspects of an online company, with a variety of opportunities available based on strengths and interest. Possibilities include business development, social media marketing/digital storytelling, web development, and building strong community relationships.

Sneaker Week 

Sneaker Week works to connect professionals and sneaker enthusiasts to the growing opportunities within the footwear industry.  Programs include a series of events that help drive its mission of highlighting the diverse culture and community amongst global sneaker enthusiasts and the evolving landscape of Portland’s footwear industry and popular culture.

Interns in this position will work alongside the leadership team to strategize and execute Sneaker Week works to connect professionals and sneaker enthusiasts to the growing opportunities within the footwear industry. Programs include a series of events that help drive its mission of highlighting the diverse culture and community amongst global sneaker enthusiasts and the evolving landscape of Portland’s footwear industry and popular culture.mmunity initiatives and fulfill partnership deliverables, such as co-hosting events and providing event recaps. This position is a great opportunity to learn and develop skills in marketing, professional communication, project management, and organizational habits. 
SOLVE

SOLVE is a statewide nonprofit with a mission to bring Oregonians together to improve the environment and build a legacy of stewardship. Their goal is to protect and preserve the places that make Oregon a uniquely beautiful state. 

SOLVE offers an opportunity to focus on conducting outreach to community groups, schools, non-profit organizations, government agencies, religious organizations, companies, and others to ensure that the leaders and participants in SOLVE programs reflect the diversity of the Portland-Metro area. Specific activities will include conducting meetings, organizing trainings, developing printed and online materials, organizing and leading volunteer projects, and supporting projects organized by new volunteer leaders, all with a specific focus on engaging diverse communities.

Technology Association of Oregon

The Technology Association of Oregon (TAO) supports entrepreneurs and connects peers and decision-makers to establish the Northwest as a global hub for innovation. TAO  is dedicated to creating an inclusive, world-class innovation economy in Oregon and SW Washington that strengthens our regional technology industry.

Interns will work on two key projects: an ongoing data purification project to ensure correct market segmentation and effective outreach, and an analysis of TAO’s diversity metrics, including researching solutions, new members, and partners that will help TAO continue its racial equity journey. 

The Commons Law Center

The Commons Law Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides sliding scale legal services, community education, and practical training for new lawyers and students. The Commons mission is to revolutionize access to basic legal services, information, and support for underserved people.

Interns will be immersed in The Commons Law Center’s services, supporting direct client legal work, including: corresponding with clients, legal research, drafting documents, and managing discovery. Additionally, interns may support education and outreach projects and help triage callers.

Toyouinspire Flowers

Toyouinspire Flowers is a modern floral and botanical service that brings a unique and urban twist to natural art design by providing arrangements and botanicals utilizing the freshest product to satisfy customers’ visionary requests. Toyouinspire Flowers partners with organizations and community members that elevate and support BIPOC and collects monthly donations in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement.

This internship is ideal for a candidate interested in fostering and maintaining community partnership connections, primarily with non-profits and schools that seek to support people of color in the Portland community. Duties would include detailed social media campaigns, as well as assisting in building the 2021 Black Lives Matter Donation Drive.

Willamette River Network

The Willamette River Network (WRN) seeks to catalyze, align, and leverage efforts to create a healthy river system and thriving communities with meaningful connections to rivers and streams in the Willamette Basin. WRN provides opportunities for partners to connect, build capacity, and decolonize their approach to river stewardship, with a goal to expand the Willamette Basin restoration movement with a deeper focus on human justice and community wellbeing.

This position offers a variety of opportunities, from social media programming to assisting in engaging in partnerships with BIPOC-led and serving organizations in the Portland Metro area by setting up meetings between WRN staff and potential partners. The intern will attend numerous meetings and trainings, including assisting with the planning of the Summer Network Convening and an annual Network Conference.
